IBM has launched a Call for Code global initiative that calls for developers to create a solution that can significantly improve preparedness for natural disasters and relief when they hit. In other words, the solution should focus on solving the crucial issue of preventing, responding to, and recovering from natural disasters.

According to Bob Lord, IBM’s chief digital officer:

“At IBM, we harness the power of technologies like AI, blockchain, IoT, and cloud to address some of the biggest opportunities and challenges in business. Now, with Call for Code, we are calling on all developers to join us and use these same leading-edge technologies to help people, their communities and society.”

The contest is open to developers worldwide. However, all submissions must be deployed and run on the IBM Cloud and must make use of at least 5 IBM cloud services. The team that wins the Call for Code Global Award will have built a creative application that can be deployed effectively and easily around the world.
With that said, participants get a chance of winning:
Grand Prize:
  • $200,000 USD cash prize
  • Invitation to the Call for Code Global Prize Event
  • Long-term open source project support from The Linux Foundation
  • VC introduction and pitch opportunity
  • Offer to deploy the solution with IBM Corporate Service Corps

While the First and Second Runner-Up could win:

  • $25,000 USD cash prize
  • Invitation to the Call for Code Global Prize Event
  • Long-term open source project support from The Linux Foundation
